CASSIE RAMONE (Vivian Girls / The Babies) + OJ (XRAY EYEBALLS) + SHOPPING Monday 11th November 2013 at The Castle Hotel

We are delighted to welcome the one and only CASSIE RAMONE to the Castle Hotel! Her work in The Babies and Vivian Girls has established  both her as a writer of unshakeable songs steeped
and as one of the finest, and most under-appreciated guitarists of her generation- her solos crystal clear transmissions from close to the heart: bold, bright, idiosyncratic and full of emotion, a' la Fred Cole, Neil Young etc. As yet she has not released a solo LP but there have been a string essential singles beginning in 2010 with a split 7" with The Beets.

Streaming below is last years split with  HUNX and the most recent release, a split with XRAY EYEBALLS, whose OJ plays too.

SHOPPING just released their debut album 'Consumer Complaints' to unanimous praise. This show sees them rounding off a two week UK tour and probably selling the last copies of the records first pressing. You may've been lucky enough to see them on their previous visit to Manchester or to've heard them on the radio via Marc Riley. If not bring your dancing shoes and your wallet. SHOPPING are propulsive bass lines, primitive disco-not-disco drums and guitar lines sharp as broken glass courtesy of present and past members of Wet Dog, Trash Kit, Golden Grrrls, Sacred Paws, Gold Bars and Covergirl.

GARY WAR + PURPLE PILGRIMS Gullivers 1/11/2013

We are delighted to present, all the way from Hong Kong, China (via NYC and Christchurch, NZ), GARY WAR & PURPLE PILGRIMS. On our soil to celebrate the release of a new split LP on Upset The Rhythm. Despite early collaborations with both John Maus and Ariel Pink and a string of mind-bending records on Captured Tracks, Sacred Bones and other labels, Gary War remains, somehow, somewhat under the radar. Too weird for the straights, too 'pop' for the freaks his music occupies a unique space--- Genuinely psychedelic, truly experimental 21st Century Pop music which is formally ambiguous and but emotionally direct.
Purple Pilgrims, sisters Clementine and Valentine Nixon, make a deep, heavy and spiritual noise with the breezy nonchalance of all the greats of their homeland.
IRMA VEP and CHALAQUE play too.
