Seven years ago, to the day, the first Comfortable On A Tightrope happening took place with Simon Joyner, Enablers, Former Bullies and Land Ahoy!
Since then there have been 90-something more including the debut Manchester performances of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffitti, Mika MIko, Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, John Maus, Veronica Falls, Nite Jewel, Cass Mccombs, Grass Widow, Silk Flowers, Brilliant Colors, Finally Punk, Lexie Mountain Boys, Nisennenmondai, Gun Outfit, Women & Children, Animals & Men, La La Vasquez, Box Elders, Pheromoans, The Royal We, Thanksgiving, Chain & The Gang, Girls Names
and etc.
In celebration of this anniversary we are giving a party at
KRAAK GALLERY 11 Stevenson Square
with some of our very favourite bands:
THE BABIES are Cassie Ramone, Kevin Morby and Justin Sullivan from Brooklyn, New York City. They have an album on Dennis Callaci’s legendary Shrimper label and 7”s on Teenage Teardrops, Make-a-Mess, Wild World and LebensStrasse Records and a couple of tapes including ‘Live At The Smell’ on Kill/Hurt. That they deal in golden, shimmering, perfect pop songs will come as no surprise to fans of their other bands Woods and Vivian Girls.

SEX HANDS are, variously, from North Wales and Runcorn. They are probably the only and definitely the best band ever to take the popular television show Friends as the jump-off for their songs. They have a record forthcoming on Icecapades.

J COLLIN is one of our favourite guitar players in the world, his deep and spiritual nocturnes threaten perfection and are posessed of a purity akin to that of Sonny Sharrock, Philip Cohran, Loren Connors et al. With Serfs, The Whole Voyald, Vampire Blues and WV/IL, he has a multitude of releases on various labels including his own impeccable Winebox Press.

DOLFINZ are Stonehaven, Aberdeenshires answer to Smith Westerns. Precocious and wholly unpretentious teenagers staying off the bong-hits just long enough to write the catchiest songs around before drenching them in reverb. Their first 7“ single is out now on Tuff Wax records.

FLOAT RIVERER
are Nick Mitchell and Kate Armitage, veterans of Hotpants Romance, Beach Fuzz, EYE HAI, A WAKE etc. Since releasing their debut self-titled album they’ve toured Europe twice and return just in time to play our birthday which one of them shares.
WAITERS chiming, abstract and emotive guitars and rudimentary drums can be heard on a cassette ‘Haters’, a split 7” with Former Bullies, and a couple of cd’s on Bijin Record, the Tokyo-based label ran by Nisennenmondai with whom they share their most-recent and long-awaited record, the first copies of which will be available at this show.

FORMER BULLIES
are the closest thing we have to a house band. They played our first ever show and we hope they’ll play our last. After a string of strung-out and sold-out tapes and shows with all of the best bands all over, they’ve just released their first Long-Playing vinyl record on C/F records of Belfast. There’s no-one else we’d entrust with the responsibility to get the party started.
