BIRTHDAY TAPES MMXII explanatory notes

At the beginning of the MMXIIth Year of our Lord we started a new collaborative with our sweet-hearted friends GIANT HELL.
We called it BIRTHDAY TAPES, as it was to be in concert with the cosmos and zodiac-affiliated and but also because we wanted each object to feel like a gift, wrapped as they are specially commissioned ark work.
Essentially a 'singles' club with one split release per zodiacal month.
So in MMXII there will be contributions from 24 different bands /recording artists and 12 visual artists/ image makers/ illustrators.

winebox09 - Tom Settle 'Dried Plumes' C38

 The winebox press have been making limited editions of no-limits music on cassette tape for a while now. The run of each tape is dictated by the object its 'packaging' is comprised of. Winebox09 is made from a door and each of the 26 copies are hand-painted by Lucy Jones. Tom Settle has played/plays in some of our very favourite bands: Serfs, Former Bullies, Dinner Party, Beach Fuzz and every last drop of his  musical sensitivity and sensibilities is captured on this tape. We seriously cannot recommend this enough.

Above  is a photograoh of the flyer for T.I.T.S, LA LA VASQUEZ, HOTPANTS ROMANCE and A WAKE/a GNOD jam band show which takes place this coming Monday at Trof on Thomas Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter. We are beyond excited.

Couldn't find a video of LA LA VASQUEZ but you can read an interview HERE and the GNOD/A WAKE collabo is a one-off or at least a first time thing so no such thing exists yet. We are treading new ground, join us!

Another of the best things we did in the 2008th year of our Lord

was to play Settlers of Catan on this here 3-D game board that was handmade by our friend Tom Settle. It is an actual work of art.

Another work of art that Tom made in the 200th year of our Lord was this:

a scaled-down model of  the shack Henry David Thoreau built and lived in on Walden Pond.

A net of which, will be included in Volume II Issue IV of THE REALEST.

Oh, this saturday Tom will be playing with Former Bullies and Beach Fuzz at a Special Neil Young night at the Black Lion in Salford.
